Grade 4 BIO

Colleen Baird

Hello Everyone…I am excited about returning to teach another year here at Coyote Creek Elementary School. I've been teaching here since 2006. It is wonderful to be a member of the 4th Grade Team and a part the supportive Coyote Creek community.  I look forward to a positive year filled with many memories and learning experiences.  My goal is that each of my students try something new and become respectful, independent learners, while having fun.

When I am not at school, I enjoy time at home with my family, pets, and friends.  I love to read books, travel, hike, go for long walks, and see movies. I know this year will be successful and look forward to meeting you.

I am proud and thrilled to be a part of the stellar Coyote Creek community! My husband, two sons, and I moved to San Ramon in 1993. Previous to that we lived in Bellevue, WA which is a suburb of Seattle. I grew up in Northcentral Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an undergraduate and as a graduate student.  The University of San Francisco is where I received my teaching credential.

My career path includes being a Lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and working with the homeless as a client advocate in downtown Seattle. I have also worked at the corporate offices of a cellular telephone company in public affairs/relations. Shortly after our first son was born I became a stay-at-home mom.

I have been teaching in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District since 2000. I love teaching, because I love learning. To learn is to grow. One characteristic of life in a living organism is growth. Therefore, if a person is not learning/growing, that person is not fully ALIVE! Learning is integral to living a full life, that’s why I am a teacher.

How fortunate I am to learn and grow with my students in this supportive Coyote Creek community every day!

To put it simply, I really enjoy teaching.  I love to work with children, to expand their minds with new ideas and  earning, to bring children together in a caring class community.  I feel very lucky to spend my days in the company of enthusiastic, bright, innocent yet wise young people.  Coyote Creek is an excellent school and it is a great joy to work here.  I enjoy travel, the arts, languages, and life in the Bay Area.  I look forward to knowing you!

I love being a part of the Coyote Creek family and am thrilled to be back in 4th grade this year.  My previous teaching years were in Foster City where I taught for the San Mateo/Foster City School District in both 2nd and 4th grade, and for the Central Valley School District in Spokane, WA where I taught K and 5th grade.  I received my Bachelors degree from Carroll in Elementary Education with a Minor in Reading and my Masters in Education from Gonzaga University (GO ZAGS!).  In my classroom, I want my students to feel successful as they build their foundation of learning while exploring and sharing with others.  Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, trying out new recipes, and traveling.  I'm looking forward to yet another fantastic year!

I am currently in my 29th year of teaching and my first at Coyote Creek Elementary.  I previously taught in Orinda, Menlo Park, Kirkland (Washington State), and a one year stint in Delhi, India.

I completed my undergraduate studies at Pepperdine University.  After a couple of years of working in Los Angeles, I went back to college and picked up my elementary teaching credential from UCLA.  Finally, I acquired my master’s degree in educational administration from Seattle University.

In my spare time I enjoy hanging out with our two daughters Hosanna and Sophie and my wife, Jacquelline. I appreciate such activities such as hiking, biking, jogging, and yoga.  One fun fact is I have written a children’s novel titled Fly Car.
