Building Social Skills and Confidence for Children in Grades K-3

The Rainbow project uses small group and one on one sessions with children to teach empathy, social problem solving and emotion management. These social skills are the building blocks for future relationship building. Skills that boost self esteem, skills that help teach self control, skills that help children feel more confident in their surroundings and in their interactions with others. Children may benefit from the Rainbow project because of new school adjustment, academic pressures, peer pressure, shyness, divorce, and many other reasons.

The Rainbow Room uses a research-based program called Second Step for the small group sessions. This curriculum will also be taught in all the classrooms at Coyote Creek this school year. This program was developed by the Committee for Children. The Rainbow Room will be moving to a new location this year near the kindergarten wing, and adding some new staff members.
