Staff Appreciation Week

Staff Appreciation Week (SAW) usually occurs the first week in May each year. The PTA develops a schedule of special events to recognize our school staff during this week. Room Parents are asked to help with several of the week's events (see schedule below). Room Parents should feel free request help from parents in class as needed. Room Parents are encouraged NOT to collect money from the class for a gift for their teacher during Staff Appreciation Week, though. Group gift-giving is typically reserved for the holidays, end of school year and/or a teacher's birthday. Additionally, a list of all the things the PTA has done to support the school staff throughout the year will also be posted. Some of these things include the following:

  • First Day of School Lunch
  • Holiday Lunch
  • Teacher Grants
  • Yard Duty Help
  • Room Parent Support

* Room Parent coordinated event details:

"Posters & Coffee" Event will be coordinated by Room Parents for Classroom Teachers and by PTA Board Members for all other Staff. Room Parents are asked to bring their teacher her favorite morning beverage and a poster that expresses the children's appreciation for all she does. While Room Parents create the poster, it's nice to get the children involved by having them sign it. Poster board and a copy of each classroom's composite yearbook photo will be available for Room Parents to use to create their posters in the PTA Corner of the Copy Room beginning on Monday, 4/16. Please be aware that there will only be enough poster board available to make one poster per classroom. Also, please initial the "Poster Board/Class Photo Sign-out Sheet" when you pick up your poster supplies in the Copy Room. See sample poster in left margin titled "Sample SAW Poster".

"Snacks for Staff Meeting" Event will be coordinated by the PTA with some help from Room Parents. The PTA invites their Board Members & Room Parents to provide a snack for the May after school Staff Meeting. If you are interested in helping out in this way, please sign up to bring in a snack here http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0F4AA4AB2B0-snacks. Please note that snacks should be delivered to the Teacher's Lounge by 3PM that day. 

"Thank You Notes for Teachers" Event will be coordinated by Room Parents for their Classroom Teacher. Room Parents should have each child bring in a handwritten "thank you" note for their teacher. Room Parents may also want to supply a basket for their teacher to collect the cards. 

"Lunch for Teachers in Classroom" Event will be coordinated by Room Parents for their Classroom Teacher. A parent volunteer is needed to bring the teacher lunch. Please check with her first to find out what she likes to eat for lunch and have it dropped off in the classroom at lunchtime. Keep in mind that lunch only needs to be provided for the teacher. The children will eat the lunch they purchase at school or bring from home in the MPR as usual. Please remind your teacher prior to this event that a parent in class will be bringing her lunch on the Friday of SAW.
