Thank you for volunteering your time as a Room Parent! You provide an invaluable service to the school. In addition to coordinating class parties and events, a Room Parent is the main source of communication between the PTA, your teacher, and the parents in your class. You will be invited to attend an orientation meeting at the beginning of the school year where you will receive an overview of the Room Parent role. A summary of the duties is noted below for your reference.

Room Parent Duties:

• create and distribute a class roster
• create and distribute an emergency phone tree
• create and distribute your classroom's volunteer schedule
• coordinate classroom parties and events
• support school events throughout the year by communicating event details and soliciting volunteers when needed
• send informational emails from the school to parents on your class roster

On Back-to-School Night, your teacher will provide a classroom volunteer sign-up sheet(s) for parents to indicate their interest and availability to help out in class. You'll use this information to create a class volunteer schedule. Additionally, your teacher will distribute to each family a preprinted contact information sheet. Parents will be asked to review the sheet for accuracy and to indicate what personal information they wish to be kept private and thus not shared with the rest of the class. You'll use these contact information sheets to create the class roster and emergency phone tree that you publish. At a minimum, every student's name should be on the roster you publish. If a family wishes to have their personal information kept private, though, the family should NOT be added to your emergency phone tree. Instead, your teacher will notify the office about this family's request for privacy and a school staff member will be responsible for contacting this family in an emergency.
