GATE TESTING/RETESTING PROCEDURES
Testing
All currently enrolled 2nd grade students will be administered the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) in their classrooms during the second trimester. The students’ CogAT scores will be evaluated for possible GATE identification.
Students who are new to the SRVUSD and were identified as "gifted" in their previous school district must meet the SRVUSD’s GATE identification criteria. When the student enrolls, the school or parents should send or FAX (925-743-3902) a copy of the student's intelligence or cognitive abilities test results and/or any information regarding previous "gifted" placement to the GATE Office for review. If a student does not meet the SRVUSD's GATE identification criteria, the GATE Office will notify the school. The school will notify the parents and inform them of any upcoming testing opportunities (3rd-7th grades only).
The District will not accept test results obtained from parents who have contracted with private
practitioners.
Retesting
Students in 3rd-7th grade who are new to SRVUSD schools will have an opportunity for testing on a Saturday in January at a designated school site. Parents may sign up on line at the district website. There is a $60 fee for each student.
Students may not take the CogAT more than once each calendar year and not more than a total of three times. The testing/retesting instrument for grades 3-7 is the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). Testing will be conducted by District personnel.
Please be sure to check the district website for current information regarding GATE.
